The Etiological Profile of Global Developmental Delay at a Tertiary Care Hospital in India: An Observational Study

Background Global developmental delay (GDD) is common and has a significant impact on affected children, families, society. Understanding its etiology crucial for management prevention strategies. However, data the etiological profile of GDD in developing countries are limited. This study aimed to identify at tertiary care hospital India. Methodology observational included children aged three months five years with quotient below 70%. Data demographics, clinical features, relevant investigations, diagnoses were collected. Etiologies categorized into prenatal, perinatal, postnatal, unknown causes. Informed consent was obtained from parents. Results A total 52 median age 15.5 months, study, 69.2% being males. Prenatal causes accounted half cases, genetic abnormalities (32.7%) chromosomal (7.7%) prominent. Perinatal next most (34.6%), including hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (26.7%). Postnatal rare (3.8%). The overall yield 88.4%, some cases remaining unidentified. Conclusions causes, abnormalities, GDD. utilization testing enhances yield. Hypoxic-ischemic remains factor highlights importance perinatal preventing delays. Large multicentric studies needed comprehensive database profiles.
